I had the privilege of being included recently at a meeting in Washington, D.C. of the American Society of Bookplate Designers and Collectors. Among the collectors I met is the author of a blog about bookplate collecting, Lewis Jaffe. His blog is full of fascinating information about the history of bookplates and bookplate artists. What does "ex libris" mean? Many of our bookplates have the phrase "ex libris" in the design and we are frequently asked this question. "Ex libris" is Latin for "from the books" and is used on bookplates to mean "from the books of" or "from the library of." In fact, bookplates are often called "ex libris."

These illustrations are part of a series of animal illustrations for her upcoming animal ABC book. Her work has appeared in newspapers and periodicals around the country, including Harper's, Ms, Ethics, San Francisco Chronicle, and many others.
